Awareness of Dental Hygienists's Techniques and Knowledge on the Smoking Cessation Counseling

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge regarding smoking cessation counseling and the awareness and demand of smoking cessation counseling techniques among dental hygienists to provide basic knowledge regarding active smoking cessation guidance activities to dental hygienists. Methods: A survey was conducted among dental hygienists from November 1, 2019 to December 01, 2019. To analyze the survey data, frequency analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: Among dental hygienists, the knowledge and awareness regarding smoking cessation counseling were low, but the demand for smoking cessation counseling techniques was high. The awareness of smoking cessation counseling techniques increased with the increase in awareness of knowledge regarding smoking cessation counseling. Conclusions: Education on smoking cessation guidance should be provided to dental hygienists. A smoking cessation program related to counseling techniques should be developed, and its effects should beto evaluated in a future study.
